WADDINGTON, N.Y.— The Drury University bass fishing program had two teams qualify for the Bassmaster College Series National Championship on the St. Lawrence River near Waddington, New York, and the Panthers finished 26
th and 72
nd in the event.
Drury's
Hunter Baird and
Beau Browning landed 10 fish and nine live for a total of 33 pounds, 14 ounces in two days of competition to finish 26
th in a field of 126. The Panthers' other boat, featuring
Cole Breeden and
Cameron Smith, came in 72
nd, catching 10 fish totaling 26 pounds, seven ounces. Neither Drury team made the cut among the top 15 to advance to Sunday's third round.
Hayden Scott and Griffin Fernandes from Adrian (Mich.) won the tournament, while a boat from Bethel (Tenn.) came in second, and a duo from Auburn was third.
Drury's bass fishing team is scheduled to compete again on Oct. 1 in the Major League Fishing tour stop on Lake Dardanelle in Russellville, Arkansas.
