DU bass fishing lands top 10 finishes at MLF event in La Crosse, Wisc.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.—  The Drury University bass fishing team returned to competition last weekend and had two boats finish in the top 15 on Saturday at the Major League Fishing tour stop on the Mississippi River near La Crosse, Wisconsin, then had two finish in the top 10 on Sunday in the Wiley X College Faceoff.  
 
On Saturday, Drury's Cole Breeden and Cameron Smith finished tenth among 97 boats as the duo landed three fish totaling eight pounds, 15 ounces. Brock Bila and Dylan Chambers were Drury's next-best finishers coming in 15th with three fish and eight pounds, six ounces. Beau Browning and Jacob Welch came in 60th with three fish and five pounds, three ounces.
 
Pierce Knarr and Ryan Lowe from Iowa University won the single-day tournament with three fish totaling 12 pounds, 10 ounces.
 
The Drury teams of Breeden and Smith, and Bila and Chambers, advanced to Sunday's Wiley X College Faceoff. The Sunday event was a catch, weight, and release format, and both Drury boats landed spots in the top 10. Bila and Chambers brought in 12 fish and a total of 24 pounds, six ounces. Breeden and Smith landed five fish totaling nine pounds to finish ninth.
 
A duo from Iowa won Sunday's tournament catching 30 fish for a total of 78 pounds.
 
The Panthers compete again in the Bassmaster College Series National Championship Aug. 12-14 on the St. Lawrence River in Waddington, New York.
