KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Drury Panthers found their offense in the second half but could not stop Rockhurst and fell 77-71 on the road Saturday in Kansas City, Missouri.
Drury dropped to 4-9 and 1-4 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, while the Hawks picked up their first win in the GLVC, going to 1-5 in the league 6-9 overall.
The Panthers were held to just 24 points in the first half and trailed 29-24 at the break. But Drury started to click in the second half, shooting 51 percent after intermission connecting on 18 of 35 attempts. Rockhurst, however, would go 17 of 30, including an 8-for-14 performance from three-point range in the second half to hold off the Panthers.
Drury trailed by as much as 15 in the second half and climbed with six in the final two minutes of regulation but could not pull closer down the stretch.
Malek Davis and
Obi Okafor both had 18 points to lead the Panthers.
Quenton Shelton added 13 for Drury.
Nick Volz had a game-high 19 points for Rockhurst.
Drury ended the game going 28 for 62 from the floor (45 percent) and hit 12 of 30 three-point tries. The Hawks went 29 for 58 from the field and 11 of 22 from three. While the shooting stats were even, the Panthers fell short with a season-high 20 turnovers, and they went just 3 for 9 from the foul line. Rockhurst, meanwhile, had 14 turnovers and hit 9 of their 14 free-throw attempts.
Drury concludes their three-game road trip on Monday with a 3 pm game at 21
st ranked Truman State.
