SPRINGFIELD, Mo.— Both Drury swimming & diving teams claimed wins in their season opener as the Panthers women's squad defeated Little Rock (NCAA-I) and Henderson State, while the DU men's team also defeated Henderson State on Friday night in Little Rock, Arkansas.
The Drury women's team defeated Little Rock 195-92 and Henderson St. 194-104. Drury's men's squad posted a 187-113 victory over Henderson St.
Women's Highlights
- The Panthers won 400 Free Relay (3:52.64) and the 200 Free Relay (1:35.66)
- Mellie Wijk (Soph., Stockholm, Sweden) won four events finishing first in the 200 Fly (2:07.98), 100 Fly (57.72) and the 200 IM (2:06.98). She was also on Drury's first-place 400 Free Relay team
- Claire Conover (Soph., Wichita, Kan.) won the 100 Breast (1:06.62), and the 200 Breast (2:23.22) in addition to being on Drury's winning 400 Free Relay team
- Kasia Rogowska (Sr., Stare Bielice, Poland) finished first in the 50 Free (23.62)
- Morgan Gullette (Jr., Dallas, Tex.) took first in the 500 Free (5:15.74)
Men's Highlights
- Anisse Djaballah (Sr., Alegiers, Algeria) won both distances events taking the 1000 Free (9:38.62) and the 500 Free (4:38.92)
- Davi Mourao (Soph., Sao Paulo, Brazil) earned wins in the 100 Breast (57.66), and the 200 Breast (2:08.75)
- Alejandro Villarejo (Fr., Madrid, Spain) took first in the 200 Fly (1:53.72) and the 200 IM (1:54.72)
- Cole Earl (Sr., Springfield, Mo.) won both diving events taking the 1-meter competition with 328 points and the 3-meter with 303.53 points
- Andrew Rodriguez (Gr., Ripon, Wisc.) picked up a win in the 200 Back (1:54.66)
Both Drury teams compete again on Oct. 14 with a dual at Missouri State at 1 pm in Hammons Student Center.
