Lady Panthers open the season with the SBU Tipoff Classic 
The 10th ranked Drury Lady Panthers open the 2022-23 season on Friday and Saturday in the SBU Tipoff Classic. Drury takes on Kentucky Wesleyan on Friday at 4:30 pm, then Trevecca Nazarene on Saturday at 3:30 pm.
 
Drury was 32-5 last year, won the Great Lakes Valley Conference championship for the sixth straight season, and advanced to the NCAA-II Tournament for the 19th time in 22 years.
 
Head coach Amy Eagan starts her third season leading the program and returns three starters and nine letter winners. Alana Findley returns after being named a First Team All-GLVC and Second Team All-Midwest Region selection. The senior from Fair Grove averaged 14.4 points and 7.7 rebounds last season. Kaylee DaMitz-Holt and Terrion Moore were also starters last year and both made the all-conference team. Holt put up 14 points per game and 3.1 assists, while Moore averaged 8.4 points and 2.3 steals.
 
Drury only lost five times last season, but one of the few teams that beat them is who they open against - Kentucky Wesleyan. The Lady Panthers lost 76-75 to Kentucky Wesleyan in Nashville, Tenn. on Nov. 13 last year in Nashville, Tenn. Drury still leads the all-time series against KWU 11-2.
 
The Lady Panthers play Trevecca Nazarene on Saturday in their second game in Bolivar. Drury defeated the Trojans 97-60 on their floor in last year's meeting on Nov. 12. The Lady Panthers are 5-0 all-time against Trevecca Nazarene.
 
After the two games this weekend, Drury will play their home opener on Nov. 19 as they host Emporia State for a 1 pm game at the O'Reilly Family Event Center.
 
Lady Panthers in openers
The Drury Lady Panthers launch their 23rd season of intercollegiate play on Friday and are 19-3 all-time in season-opening games. Drury has won their last 10 season openers dating back through the 2012-13 season. The Lady Panthers won last year's opener against 16th ranked Southwestern Oklahoma State, 92-79, in Canyon, Texas on Oct. 29, 2021.
 
Drury's last loss in an opening game was the start of the 2011-12 season when Division I Oral Roberts defeated the Lady Panthers 80-53 in Tulsa on Nov. 11, 2011. The other two season-opening losses was Nov. 13, 2010 when Drury fell at home to Northeastern State 52-39, and their first-ever game, a 70-66 loss to Cameron in Pittsburg, Kansas on Nov. 17, 2000.
 
The Lady Panthers have opened the season on a neutral floor or on the road in each of the last nine years.
