Panthers travel to UMSL for first round of GLVC Tournament
The Drury Panthers travel to Missouri-St. Louis for the opening round of the Great Lakes Valley Conference tournament on Monday. Tipoff is at 7:30 pm in St. Louis.
 
Drury is 10-15 and went 7-10 in the GLVC to finish third in the West Division. The Panthers are the 13th seed in the tournament based on their Point Rating System score.
 
The Tritons are 20-6 and finished 14-5 in the league to win the East Division title. Missouri-St. Louis is the number three seed on the GLVC bracket.
 
UMSL won the earlier meeting against the Panthers, 80-62, on Feb. 4 in the only regular season meeting. Drury had an early second-half lead in that game, but the Tritons pulled away late to win by 18. Marty Jackson had 19 points to lead UMSL in that game, while Malek Davis paced Drury with 13 points.
 
The Panthers lead the all-time series 27-11 and won two of the three meetings last year, including a 79-63 win at UMSL on March 6 in the GLVC Semifinals.
 
The winner of Monday's game advances to the GLVC Quarterfinals and will play the winner of fifth-seeded Southern Indiana and number 12  seed Illinois Springfield on Friday at 6 pm in Edwardsville, Illinois.
 
About the Tritons
The Tritons passed Truman State in the East Division standings on Saturday to finish first, but the Bulldogs stayed ahead of UMSL in the Point Rating System.
 
Marty Jackson leads the Tritons averaging 17.2 points and 6.2 rebounds. Yaakema Rose, Jr. adds 12.2 points per game, and Jose Grubbs averages 12.1 points. 
 
Panthers in the GLVC postseason
The Panthers are 22-12 all-time in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament and have won the league championship three times (2015, 2013, and 2008). Last year, they reached the GLVC championship game, winning on the road at Southwest Baptist in the quarterfinals, then at Missouri-St. Louis in the semi's. The Flyers downed Drury 77-72 in the title game played at UMSL.
 
Drury is 11-4 all-time in the quarterfinal round, 6-6 in the semifinals, and 3-2 in the championship. The Panthers are 2-0 in the tournament's opening round.
