GREENSBORO, NC— The Drury men's team had two individuals win national championships on Saturday, and the Panthers finished as the NCAA-II Runner-Up on the final day of competition at the NCAA-II Swimming & Diving Championships in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Drury finished with 522 points to come in second in the nation. Queens (NC) won the national championship by a margin of 85.5 points as they totaled 607.5. Indianapolis came in third with 413.
The Drury women's team finished fourth nationally as they accumulated 342.5 points. Queens also won the women's national title as they finished with 536.5 points. Indianapolis was second with 423 points, and Nova Southeastern was third with 368.5.
Men's Highlights
Karol Ostrowski won the first of two national championships for the Panthers on Saturday as the sophomore from Poland took first in the 100 Free. Ostrowski posted a winning time of 41.91. In the same event,
Alex Bowen came in 11th for Drury to get to the wall in 43.82.
Mikita Tsmyh also won gold for the Panthers on Saturday as he took first in the 200 Back. A sophomore from Belarus, Tsmyh swam the event in 1:41.36.
Nathan Bighetti took third in the 200 Back (1:42.31) and
Andrew Rodriguez came in 9
th (1:44.58).
Davi Maurao was third in the 200 Breast with a time of 1:55.54 and
Gavin Moak finished eighth in the 1650 Free (15:31.24). Also in the 1650 Free, Anisse Djaballah was 13
th (15:37.25) and
Ean Vandergraaf was 16
th (15:46.26).
The Panthers ended the night with a runner-up finish in the 400 Free Relay. Bowen,
Kham Glass, Bighetti and Ostrowski posted a time of 2:53.53 to come in second.
Women's Highlights
Allison Weber was the national runner-up in the 1650 Free as the senior from Marshall, Missouri, completed the event in 16:40.08.
Marina Amorim was fifth (17:01.56).
Claire Conover was seventh in the 200 Breast with a time of 2:15.22, while
Bec Cross was ninth (2:15.88).
Yasmin Preusse came in 15
th in the 100 Free (50.87), and
Morgan Gullette was 16
th in the 200 Back (2:00.90).
The Drury women's team ended the event with a sixth-place finish in the 400 Free Relay. Preusse, Katarzyna Rogowska,
Rafaela Raurich, and
Fernanda Andrade combined for a time of 3:24.02.
This year's championships marked the second-straight season the Drury's squad was the national runner-up. The DU women's team has finished in fourth or better every year since 1995.
