KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Drury started their Great Lakes Valley Conference schedule with a 3-1 mark as they swept William Jewell in a doubleheader on Tuesday, winning game one 8-1, and taking game two 11-3 in six innings in Kansas City, Missouri.
The Panthers raised their record to 15-8 and 3-1 in the league, while William Jewell fell to 3-13 and 1-3 in the GLVC.
In game one, Drury took a 2-0 lead in the third inning as
Meagan Mullaney drove in a run with a double, and
Abby Tiemann came through with an RBI-single. The Panthers blew the game open with four home runs, two of them from
Lauren Beier.
Megan Parsley and
Reagan Hight both hit solo shots, then Beier went deep with a two-run shot in the fifth, and she hit another two-run bomb in the seventh.
Kristina Bettis (10-1) got the win for the Panthers going seven innings, allowing four hits, one unearned run, and one walk with eight strikeouts.
Drury picked up the sweep, winning game two 11-3 in six innings. The Panthers opened up an early lead scoring seven runs in the second inning.
Lauren Beier went 2 for 3 with two runs and a double, while
Gracie Thomas,
Rylee Kolb, and
Reagan Hight all had two RBI's in the win.
Bailee Nixon (2-0) got the win going 4.1 innings, giving up five hits, three earned runs, and no walks while striking out two.
The Panthers return home next weekend to take on Emporia State in a doubleheader at noon on Saturday, then Southwest Baptist on Sunday at noon at Thompson Field in Springfield.
