SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Drury Panthers raised their winning streak to 10 games as they swept Missouri S&T in a doubleheader on Sunday at Thompson Field in Springfield. Drury won game one 7-1, then took the second game 7-2.
The Panthers improved to 23-8 and 9-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Miners fell to 16-14 and 6-4 in the league.
Kristina Bettis (14-1) got a complete-game win in the first contest as she won her ninth-straight start. The junior from Swansea, Illinois, went seven innings allowing four hits, one unearned run with no walks and eight strikeouts.
Drury took a 1-0 lead with a run in the third inning on an RBI-single by
Kailyne Luna. The Panthers widened the margin with four runs in the fifth.
Luna finished the game going 1 for 3 with three RBI's while
Rylee Kolb went 2 for 3 with three runs scored.
In game two, the Drury took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when
Gena Kulberg scored on a wild pitch. The Panthers opened up a 5-0 lead with four runs in the third inning, all scored with two outs.
Sydney Sneed drove in a run with a double, Kolb added a two-RBI single, and
Camryn BeDell capped the frame with a single that drove in another run.
Karsyn Smith (3-1) got the win in relief for the Panthers, while Julia Kanoy (1-1) took the loss for Missouri S&T.
Drury's 10-game winning streak matches their longest such streak since the Panthers won 10 in a row in 2012.
The Panthers return to the field on Saturday when they travel to Missouri-St. Louis for a doubleheader starting at noon.
