OZARK, Mo.— With storms closing in on US Baseball Park, a one-out single by
Kaden Helsel completed a 5-4, 11-inning comeback win for Drury over Missouri S&T on Saturday afternoon.
The Panthers move to 12-1 on the season, with the Miners falling to 3-4.
For the third straight game, Missouri S&T opened the scoring, pushing across a single run each in the top of the second and third.
Drury scratched out a run in the bottom of the fourth to close the gap to 2-1, then answered a two-run fifth inning by the Miners with runs in the bottom of the fifth, sixth and seventh innings to knot the game at 4-4.
Zach Hill and
Nate Boyle combined to allow just one hit over 4.0 innings in relief, holding the Miners scoreless through the top of the 11th.
Four Panthers recorded multi-hit games on Saturday, with
Wes Collins leading the way with two doubles in a 3-of-5 outing. Collins also had two runs, including the game-winner. Helsel,
Jackson Dierenfeldt and
DJ McNew each collected a pair of hits on the afternoon.
Boyle (1-0) needed just 21 pitches over 2.2 innings, retiring eight batters with a pair of strikeouts to earn the win.
Drury wraps up its series with Missouri S&T on Sunday at US Baseball Park. The game has moved to an 11 am start due to the threat of inclement weather.
