Panthers take two from Rockhurst

OZARK, Mo. – Drury swept Rockhurst in a doubleheader on Sunday at US Baseball Park in Ozark to take three of four from the Hawks in a weekend series. The Panthers won the first game 4-1, then scored six runs late in game two to take the second game 13-9.
 
Drury lifted their record to 24-9 and 9-3 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Rockhurst dropped to 13-19 and 3-9 in the GLVC.
 
Cade Waits (4-1) earned this third-straight complete-game win in game one. The sophomore from Tulsa, Oklahoma, went seven innings and allowed only three hits and one unearned run with two walks and five strikeouts.
 
The Panthers took a 2-1 lead in the second inning on a single by DJ McNew. Drury then gave themselves a three-run cushion in the fifth on an RBI-double by Nikko Calabro and a single by Tyler Bastunas that drove in another run.
 
Calabro and Bastunas both had two hits and an RBI in the game.
 
In game two, Drury broke a 7-7 tie with six runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. The Panthers took the lead when Kaden Helsel scored from third base on a bunt by Brant Schaffitzel. Drury opened up the margin on a bases-loaded double by Stephen Randazzo that drove in three runs, giving the Panthers an 11-7 advantage. DU then tacked on two more runs on Cooper Munro's two-run blast to left field, his third home run of the year.
 
The Panthers gave up two runs in the top of the ninth but closed out the game to complete the sweep of Rockhurst.
 
Logan Pittman (3-1) threw two pitches to get the final out of the eighth inning and the win. CJ July (0-4) took the loss in relief for the Hawks.
 
McNew went 3 for 4 at the plate in game two with runs, four RBI's, a walk, and a triple. Munro ended the game 3 for 5 with three runs, a double, and a home run.
 
Drury is back at home for a four-game series against Southwest Baptist, starting with a game on Thursday at 5 pm at US Baseball Park in Ozark.
