ST. CHARLES, Mo. – The Drury Panthers were swept in a conference doubleheader for the first time this season as Lindenwood downed Drury 11-8 in game one and 7-2 in the second game on Friday in St. Charles, Missouri.
The 20
th-ranked Panthers slipped to 28-11 and 13-5 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, while the Lions lifted their record to 22-17 and 11-7 in the GLVC.
In game one, Drury battled back from a 6-0 deficit after two innings and tied the game at 7-7 in the top of the sixth.
Jackson Dierenfeldt drove in a run in the sixth to tie the game, but the Lions responded with three runs in the bottom half of the inning and never trailed again.
Dierenfeldt went 5 for 5 in the game with a double, a triple, three runs, and two runs batted in. His five hits were a season-high.
Logan Pittman (4-2) took the loss for the Panthers in relief, while Lindenwood reliever Logan Katan got the win to go to 6-0.
Drury fell behind early in game two as Lindenwood scored a run in the first inning, then took a 4-0 lead with three runs in the third. The Panthers got on the board on an RBI single by
Kaden Helsel in the fifth inning to pull within three, 4-1. The Lions put up a run in the bottom half of the frame, but Drury got back within three in the next inning on an RBI hit from
Nikko Calabro. Lindenwood then put the game away, scoring twice in the bottom of the sixth.
Calabro went 2 for 3 in the game with an RBI. Lindenwood's Will Lanxon went 2 for 3 with two walks and three runs scored.
The four-game series concludes on Saturday with a doubleheader starting at noon in St. Charles.
