ST. CHARLES, Mo. – Drury gave Lindenwood their first home losses of the season as the Panthers swept the Lions in a doubleheader on Sunday in St. Charles, Missouri, winning game one 3-1 and taking game two 10-1 in five innings.
Lindenwood had been 14-0 on their home field but fell to 26-6 on the year and 13-3 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Drury lifted their record to 26-9 and 12-2 in the GLVC.
The Panthers broke a 1-1 tie with two runs in the top of the seventh to win game one of the doubleheader.
Camryn BeDell put Drury in front with an RBI double that scored
Rylee Kolb, then
Megan Parsley's pinch-hit single drove in BeDell and gave the Panthers a two-run lead.
Kristina Bettis (16-1) then pitched a one-two-three bottom of the seventh to close out the game as she picked up her 11
th straight win as a starting pitcher. The junior from Swansea, Illinois, allowed five hits and one earned run with no walks and seven strikeouts. Amandy Weyh (15-1) took her first loss of the season.
BeDell finished the game going 2 for 3, while
Reagan Hight and
Abby Tiemann also had two hits.
In game two, Drury opened with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning.
Reagan Hight smacked a double to left-field that drove in two. The Panthers added three more runs in the second as they got a two-run homer from Megan Mullaney and an RBI-single from
Gracie Thomas.
After scoring another run in the third, Drury put Lindenwood on the ropes with four runs in the fifth inning to take a 10-1 lead. DU posted six hits in the frame and two runs scored on a bases-loaded error at second base.
Mullaney and Hight both went 2 for 3 with 3 RBIs in the game.
Karsyn Smith (4-2) got the win for Drury as she pitched five innings allowing six hits and one run with no walks and no strikeouts. Marina Esparza (9-6) took the loss for the Lions.
It marked the first run-rule loss for Lindenwood this season.
Drury is back at home next Saturday when they host Southern Indiana. The Screaming Eagles ended the weekend in first place in the GLVC with a 12-0 league record. The first game of the Saturday doubleheader is at noon at Thompson Field.
