WARRENSBURG, Mo. – The Drury Panthers got off to a strong start on Wednesday against fifth-ranked Central Missouri, but the Mules took over with five runs in the third inning on their way to a 13-4 win in Warrensburg.
Drury fell to 21-8 while Central Missouri raised their record to 26-4.
The Panthers jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Drury took advantage of a Central Missouri error and scored a run on a bunt by
Brant Schaffitzel. They added a second run on a ground ball by
Tyler Bastunas, then added a pair more on an infield single by
Wes Collins and a throwing error on the same play.
The Mules did not allow a run nor did they commit an error in the remaining eight innings and took the lead with five runs in the third to go ahead 7-4. Central Missouri added two more runs in the fourth and put the game away with four runs in the eighth inning.
Tyler Rardin (3-0) got the win for Central Missouri, while
Tom Tewes (1-2) took the loss for Drury.
Wes Collins went 1 for 2 at the plate for the Panthers and added an RBI as well as two walks.
Drury returns to conference play this weekend with a four-game series against Rockhurst at US Baseball Park in Ozark. With pending cold weather, game times have been adjusted, and Friday's first pitch has been moved to 4 pm, and Saturday's doubleheader will start at 1 pm.
