INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.— Sixth-ranked Indianapolis held off a second-half rally by Drury to win their 17
th game in a row in a 76-65 victory over the Panthers at Nicoson Hall in Indianapolis, Indiana on Thursday.
The Panthers trailed by 20 early in the second half, then responded with a 7-0 run and pulled with five with 6:55 remaining on a
Quenton Shelton three-pointer that made the score 57-52. Indianapolis made free throws down the stretch and held off Drury to win by 11.
"Indianapolis showed why they are where they are, and they're ranked number six in the country for a reason," said Drury head coach
Chris Foster. "I was proud of the way we fought and I thought we did some good things, particularly offensively in the second half. We just have to continue to get better defensively and in rebounding the ball."
The Greyhounds took advantage of their size as they got the ball inside to Kendrick Tchoua, who scored 27 points on 11 of 13 shooting, with nearly all his attempts coming at the rim. The league's leader in field goal percentage, who entered Thursday's game shooting 74 percent from the floor, added 14 rebounds. Jesse Bingham added 23 points and five assists.
Shelton led the Panthers with 20 points and went 5 for 9 from three-point range.
Logan Applegate added 15 points and
Brock Wakefield had nine rebounds for Drury.
Indianapolis shot 54 percent in the game, going 30 for 56. Drury had 23 assists on 25 made shots going 25 for 57 from the floor for 44 percent. The Panthers made 11 three-pointers on 24 attempts.
Drury was without starting forward
Adam Moore, who missed his second game with an injured leg.
The Panthers conclude their road trip on Saturday at McKendree for a 3 pm game in Lebanon, Illinois.
