Ozark, Mo.— The Drury Panthers defeated Rockhurst in their home opener on Saturday.

The Panthers didn't take long to score thanks to a mammoth blast off the bat of Briar Stinson that gave Drury a 1-0 lead after one inning of play. The pitching for both sides was exceptional, as no runs were scored until the Panthers struck again in the bottom of the sixth.

The sixth inning saw Wes Collins spark the offense with a double to left field. Briar Stinson added to his strong day at the plate by knocking in Collins with a single up the middle. Drury found success again in the seventh after a Connor Bain single led to a two-run homer off the bat of Luke Burk. Drury now led by four after seven and the Panther pitching made sure to keep it that way.

Cody Bahl (2-0) was dominant on the rubber, tossing seven innings without allowing a run, and striking out five. Bahl moved through the Rockhurst lineup at an impressive rate, allowing only three hits and crushing any scoring threats from the Hawks. Wesley Laaker was then handed the ball for the Panthers and put up two innings of work. Laaker did not allow a run and secured victory for Drury.

The Panthers (3-1) will conclude their three game series against Rockhurst with a doubleheader tomorrow. First pitch will be thrown at 12 pm. The second game tomorrow is scheduled for 3 pm.
