SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Drury swept a doubleheader from Davenport on Tuesday, winning game one 2-0 and game two 8-1 at Thompson Field in Springfield.
The Panthers lifted their record to 9-9 and dropped Davenport to 3-9.
Kristina Bettis (5-5), the reigning the Great Lakes Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week, got the win in game one and reached double-digits in strikeouts in her third-straight game as the senior from Swansea, Ill., fanned 13 batters in a four-hit shutout. Bettis walked four, but only one after the third inning and she retired the last eight hitters she faced, striking out four of them.
Drury scored a run in the second inning as
Lauren Beier scored from third base on a wild pitch. Beier scored Drury's other run two innings later on an RBI-single by
Megan Parsley.
The Panthers scored eight runs in the first two innings on their way to an 8-1 win. After Davenport scored a run in the first, Drury responded with five runs in the bottom half of the inning, highlighted by a two-run single by
Camryn BeDell. Drury added three more runs in the second as they took advantage of two Davenport errors and picked up an RBI hit by
Summer Johnson, who had two RBI's in the game.
Lindsay Henson (1-1) got the complete-game win. She did not allow a run after the opening frame and scattered seven hits with two walks and five strikeouts.
Drury returns to Thompson Field this weekend hosting the Drury Classic. The tournament is condensed to Saturday and Sunday as the threat of inclement weather canceled games on Friday. The Panthers open the event on Saturday at noon again Minnesota-Crookston.
