Panthers and Cardinals exchange blowouts in doubleheader

OZARK, Mo.— Drury and William Jewell traded shutouts and blowouts on Friday as the Panthers won game one 17-0, then lost game two 19-0 at US Baseball Park in Ozark.
 
Drury moved their record to 11-12 and 2-4 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. William Jewell went to 14-5 and 5-1 in the league.
 
The Panthers scored a season-high 17 runs in the first game as they collected 14 hits and took advantage of 12 walks and two hit batters. Drury scored five runs in the first inning, two in the second, and five more in the third inning.
 
Kellen Williamson went 2 for 3 with three runs, three runs batted in, and he reached base in all four plate appearances. Tyler Bastunas went 3 for 3 with three runs, three RBIs, and two walks.
 
Mason Meeks (3-2) pitched a complete-game, four-hit shutout, allowing one walk with eight strikeouts.
 
William Jewell retaliated in game two with 19 runs on 20 hits. The Cardinals scored at least one run in every inning and capped the game with a six-run seventh inning. Chandler Ashby (4-0), who was among the league leaders with a 2.10 earned run average entering the game, shut out the Panthers and held Drury to three hits while striking nine. William Jewell outfielder Jordan Phillips went 3 for 5 with five runs, a home run, a triple and six RBIs.
 
Zack McKinnis (1-3) took the loss in the second game for Drury.
 
Saturday's game is postponed to Sunday due to cold temperatures in the forecast. The two teams will conclude their four-game with a doubleheader on Sunday at 1 pm at US Baseball Park.
