ST. LOUIS, Mo.— Drury split a doubleheader with Missouri S&T on Sunday as they fell in game one 6-2, but rebounded for a 7-1 win in the second game on Sunday in St. Louis. With the split, the Panthers took three of the four games against the Miners in the weekend series played at Maryville University due to wet grounds in Rolla.
Drury ended the day 16-12 and 7-5 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Missouri S&T went to 10-14 and 2-10 in the GLVC.
Missouri S&T pitching kept Drury's bats quiet in a 6-2 win for the Miners in game one. Four Missouri S&T pitchers combined to stymie the Panthers as the Miners built a 4-0 lead in the first three innings. Drury pulled within three runs of the lead on a solo home run by
Luke Burk in the fourth, but Missouri S&T scored in the bottom half of the inning to go ahead 5-1.
Briar Stinson added a solo homer for the Panthers in the sixth, but the Miners closed out the game for a 6-2 win.
Drury jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning of game two.
Wes Collins drove in a pair of runs with a single, and
Connor Bain added a run on a sacrifice fly.
The Panthers added a run in the fourth and the seventh while starter
Jack Jones (3-1) picked up a win, holding the Miners to two hits and one unearned run through six innings. Jones struck out seven while walking two.
Collins finished the game going 2 for 4 with two RBI's, while
Brooks Sunny went 2 for 4 with a home run for Drury.
The Panthers are back at home on Friday when they start a four-game series with Southwest Baptist. The first pitch on Friday is at 5 pm at US Baseball Park in Ozark.
