Drury fall by one run in both games at No. 6 Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Sixth-ranked Indianapolis edged Drury twice on Saturday, winning 3-2 in game one and 4-3 in the second game on Saturday in Indianapolis, Indianapolis.
 
The Greyhounds improved to 43-4 and 16-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, while the Panthers fell to 21-23 and 9-9 in the GLVC.
 
Indianapolis scored in the bottom of the seventh to pull out a game one win, 3-2. The Greyhounds took an early lead with two runs in the first inning. Drury pulled even in the fourth on a two-RBI single by Rylee Kolb.
 
The game stayed deadlocked until the seventh. Megan Nichols got a single with one out in the bottom of the seventh that drove in Maddy Stout for the winning run.
 
Kristina Bettis (12-11) took the loss for Drury despite giving up just one earned run. She went 6.1 innings and allowed nine hits, three runs and one earned run with one walk and two strikeouts. Kenzee Smith (25-3) struck out seven batters as she picked up the win for Indianapolis.
 
Drury put together a rally in game two but fell a run short, 4-3. Trailing 4-0 and down to their final out with the bases empty, the Panthers picked up a pair of singles, then Lauren Beier belted a three-run homer to pull Drury within a run of the lead.
 
The Panthers weren't done yet as they loaded the bases, but Indianapolis brought Kenzee Smith out of the bullpen to get the final out and her fourth save of the year.
 
Indianapolis scored single runs in the first, third, fourth and sixth innings, and their solo home run from Lexy Rees in the sixth proved to be the winning run.
 
The win extended Indianapolis' winning streak to nine games.
 
Drury continues their road trip as they travel to McKendree for a noon doubleheader on Sunday.
