QUINCY, Ill.— Drury fell to eighth-ranked Quincy in the final game of a four-game series as the Hawks kept their offense rolling in a 16-6 win over the Panthers in eight innings on Sunday in Quincy, Illinois.
The win gave the Hawks a sweep in the four-game set and lifted their record to 36-9 and 23-5 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Drury went to 27-23 and 17-15 in the GLVC.
The Panthers took an early 1-0 lead with a run in the first on a double by
Luke Burk. Quincy countered with four runs in the first, though, and went up 6-1 after two innings.
Drury pulled within three, 7-4, in the fifth, but the Hawks responded with a five-run sixth inning and two more runs in the seventh and eighth to end it.
Quincy hit six home runs in the game and got two each from Gino D'Alessio and Luke Napleton. D'Alession went 4 for 4 in the game with six runs scored, two RBI's, two walks and a double to go with his two homers. The home runs from Napleton were his 25
th and 26
th of the year.
Brooks Sunny went 3 for 5 for the Panthers and scored twice, while teammate
Luke Burk was 3 for 4 with a run, an RBI and two doubles.
Jay Hammel (4-2) went five innings to get the win for Quincy, while
Cade Waits (5-5) took the loss for the Panthers.
The weekend series ended the regular season for Drury. The Panthers will wait through the final weekend of league play to determine if they remain in the top eight to reach the GLVC Tournament. Drury enters the final weekend in sixth place in the conference standings. The Panthers have a one-game lead in the loss column over Indianapolis (14-14), Missouri S&T (14-14) and Missouri-St. Louis (14-14), and they are one back in the loss column of William Jewell (15-13).
The GLVC Tournament is May 11-14 in Marion, Illinois.
