INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Drury defeated Indianapolis in the final game of their series with the Greyhounds on Saturday. The Panthers were able to hold off a late rally from Indy, taking the game with a score of 6-3.
The Panthers now have a GLVC record of (12-8) on the season, while Indy moves to (5-11).
The Panthers had a strong showing offensively, with Luke Burk reaching base on a walk in the first inning. Kellen Williamson would take care of the rest, launching a homer to left field, giving the Panthers an early 2-0 lead.
The Greyhounds would pick up a run of their own in the second inning, after a successful sacrifice bunt from Will Spear. The game bats for both teams would go silent until the seventh when Max Elmer and Connor Bain singled for the Panthers to start a rally. Cooper Munro placed a bunt down, reaching base after an error by the pitcher.
Drury was in striking distance, with the bases loaded and with the power hitting Jeremiah Cabuyaban in to pinch hit. Cabuyaban did more than a little damage, launching a long homer over the left field wall, driving in four runs and giving Drury a 6-1 lead.
The Greyhounds started a rally of their own in the bottom half of the seventh, scoring two without tallying any hits in the inning. The Panthers got out of the jam thanks to solid pitching from their bullpen. Mason Majors and Tyler Bastunas put in solid performances on the rubber to close out the win for Drury with a final score of 6-3.
Jack Jones (5-1) got the win on the mound for Drury, tossing six innings of one run ball. Tyler Bastunas was awarded the save. Logan Peterson took the loss for the Greyhounds.
Drury returns to US Ballpark next Friday to start a four-game series with Truman State, which concludes on Sunday. First pitch of game one will be thrown at 5 pm.
