QUINCY, Ill. – The Drury Panthers split a doubleheader at Quincy with a 2-1 win in the first game that was followed by a 3-1 loss in game two on Saturday in Quincy, Illinois.
 
Drury ended the day 19-19 and 7-5 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, while the Hawks went to 14-18 and 6-8 in the league.
 
Kristina Bettis (11-9) got the win in game one going all seven innings allowing five hits and one unearned run with one walk and six strikeouts. Jayle Jennings (6-8) took the loss for Quincy.
 
The Panthers got on the board in the second inning as 
Rylee Kolb's double drove in 
Kailyne Luna. Drury added another run an inning later on an RBI-single by 
Victoria Garland that scored 
Lauren Beier. The Hawks took advantage of a Drury error in the sixth to get on the board, but Quincy stranded two runners in the inning as Bettis got a groundout to get out of the jam. Bettis retired all three Hawks batters in the seventh to close out the game.
 
Kolb went 3 for 4 in the game and registered her third three-hit game of the season.
 
Quincy got a three-run home run in the third inning of game two and managed to hold off Drury for a 3-1 win in the second game. Taylor Downen belted the three-run shot, her fifth of the year. The Panthers got a solo home run in the fourth as 
Victoria Garland smacked her third homer of the season. Drury could not take advantage of a lead-off single in the fifth, and the Hawks held down the Panthers for the split.
 
Brooklyn Fischer (7-8) struck out seven batters to get the win for Quincy, while 
Karsyn Smith (1-1) took the loss despite going six innings and allowing six hits and three runs with no walks and five strikeouts.
 
Garland finished the game going 2 for 3 with a home run.
 
Drury is back at home next weekend when they host Maryville on Saturday for a noon doubleheader at Thompson Field in Springfield.
