SPRINGFIELD, Mo. –
Will Kuster took the championship in the 165-pound weight class and
Trevor Christian finished third at 141 pounds at the Drury Open, hosted by the Panthers in Weiser Gym and the HYPR Gym on the DU campus in Springfield on Saturday.
The event featured wrestlers from 20 different teams.
Will Kuster, a senior from Jefferson City, Missouri, went 5-0 on Saturday and won twice by Fall and three times by Technical Fall. Kuster pinned his first two opponents, then reached the championship round with a 16-1 win by Technical Fall over Kelton Howard from Neosho County Community College. Kuster won the 165-pound title with a 20-4 Technical Fall win over Jaxon Randall from Central Oklahoma.
Trevor Christian finished third in the 141-pound division, going 5-1 in the tournament. Then senior from Lebanon, Missouri, won his first three bouts, including two by Fall and another by Tech Fall. After suffering a loss to a Division I opponent from Little Rock, Christian rebounded to win the third-place match, a 12-2 Major Decision victory over Caleb Andrews (Ouachita Baptist).
Bryson Humphries (125), Gavin Bremenkamp (165),
Jeremiah Halter (174), and
Jack Stoffel all went 4-2 for the Panthers.
Drury wrestlers went a combined 34-27 in the event.
The Panthers compete again on Wednesday when they host Neosho County at 6 pm at Weiser Gym.
