Drury swimmers set five team records and break two NCAA-II records at SMU Invitational

DALLAS, Tex.— The Drury men's swimming & diving team finished third and the DU women's squad came in fourth at the Southern Methodist University Invitational at the Robson and Lindley Aquatics Center in Dallas, Texas. The four-day event concluded on Saturday.
 
The Drury men's team, ranked third in NCAA-II, earned a total of 727 points to come in third among seven teams. Stanford, ranked eighth in Division I, won the event with 1043.5 points, while SMU was second with 957.5 points. The Panthers finished ahead of fourth-place Hawaii, who had 545 points.
 
The DU women's squad, also ranked third in NCAA-II, had 687.5 points to finish fourth among eight teams. Miami (Fla.), ranked 25th in D-I, won the meet with 936 points, while Hawaii was second with 770, and SMU was third with 763.5 points. The Panthers finished ahead of fifth-place North Texas, who had 83 points.
 
Drury was the only Division II team on both the men's and women's side of the event.
 
The Panthers broke five team records in addition to two NCAA-II records during the meet. On Saturday, Jonette Laegreid set an NCAA-II record in the 200 Breast with a time of 2:08.86 during preliminary heats. Also on Saturday, Drury's Davi Mourao, set a team record in the men's 200 Breast (1:54.38). Earlier in the week, the Drury men's 400 Medley Relay team set a Division II record (3:06.83), and their 800 Free Relay team also set a team record (7:18.92). Ivan Adamchuk also set a Drury record in the 200 IM (1:43.13)
