SPRINGFIELD, Mo.– Drury finished third among NCAA-II teams at the 2024 Triathlon Championships in Clermont, Florida on Saturday. It is the best finish at the national championship in program history for the Panthers. Drury came in fourth each of the last two years at the championship event.
The Panthers finished with 648 points, will ahead of fourth place Colorado Mesa's total of 582. Wingate won the national championship with 742 points, while Lenoir Rhyne was second with 737.
Drury sophomore
Kristina Vestman was 59
th overall out of 202 competitors in all divisions and she came in ninth in Division II as the native of Sweden completed the 750-meter swim, 20-kilometer bike race, and 5-kilometer run in 1:04:13.
Alexis Workman was 62
nd overall (1:04:23), and
Eszter Vas came in 67
th (1:05:06).
Mayumi Shinozuka finished 68
th with a time of 1:05:15, and
Katie Quade was 71
st (1:05:27).
Carla Larrabeiti from Wingate won the Division II individual title with a time of 1:00:45, and Kira Gupta-Baltazar from Texas Christian took the overall national championship (1:00:16).
Drury's historic finish at nationals came on the heels of winning the NCAA-II West Region championship on Oct. 12.
