Drury opens conference slate with Highway 13 Catfight
The Drury Panthers open their Great Lakes Valley Conference schedule on Monday with the Highway 13 Catfight, presented by The Bank of Missouri, against Southwest Baptist with a 7:45 pm game in the O'Reilly Family Event Center.
Â
Drury is 4-1 and went 2-0 last week, winning both games in their DoubleTree Thanksgiving Classic. On Tuesday, the Panthers defeated Union (Tenn.), 91-69. Drury then took down Central Missouri, 66-49 on Wednesday.
Â
The 49 points Drury allowed in Wednesday's win were the fewest they have given up in a game in almost 10 years. The Panthers allowed only 45 points in a 79-45 victory over McKendree on Feb. 7, 2015.
Â
Drury has held their opponent to less than 70 points in four of their five games and in all four of their wins. The Panthers are giving up just 60.6 points so far this season.
Â
Southwest Baptist is 3-2 and is 1-0 in the GLVC. The Bearcats opened their conference schedule with a 75-56 win at home over Lincoln on Saturday. In addition to their win over Lincoln, Southwest Baptist has wins over Manhattan Christian and Ozark Christian. The Bearcats have losses to Missouri Southern and Harding. SBU started the year with an exhibition loss at Missouri State, 72-65.
Â
Drury leads the all-time series 41-24 (officially -- Drury is 42-24 on the court vs. SBU). The two teams split last year's season series, with the road team winning both. The Bearcats won at Drury, 65-62, on Dec. 9 and the Panthers won at SBU, 79-66, on Feb. 3.
Â
After Monday's game, the Panthers host Quincy in a GLVC match-up on Thursday night at 7:45 pm. Thursday's game is the second of three conference home games for Drury this week.
Â
