Drury races past Truman State

The Drury Lady Panthers completed a perfect week-long home stand on Saturday afternoon, turning back the Truman State Bulldogs 97-72 at the O'Reilly Family Event Center, celebrating Hall of Fame Day with their highest offensive showing of the season.

The win wrapped up a three games in six days stretch for Drury and moved them to 6-2 overall for the season and to 3-0 in Great Lakes Valley Conference action.

Drury exploded from  the opening tip, outscoring the Bulldogs 18-0 to begin the contest and forcing the visitors to play catch-up the remainder of the game, only allowing them to pull within ten points midway through the second quarter, but no closer, eventually leading 51-38 at halftime. Drury then used a 22-10 third quarter to put the game out of reach.

"I thought we came out of the gate ready to go and set the tone and that first quarter was the difference," said Drury head coach Kaci Bailey.  "They're a good team and we knew they were gonna make a run, but when you set the tone like that, you're gonna own the game."

Seniors Anna Hitt and Caitlynn Daniels paced a balanced Drury scoring effort, finishing with 17 points each.  Hitt also pulled down ten rebounds to post her second double-double effort of the season.

For Daniels, her scoring day moved her past the 1,000 mark in career scoring. Her stat line also included six rebounds, five assists and four steals.

"That's what we need from those two every single night," added Bailey.  "And we're gonna be pretty good if they can play like that for us every night."

Juniors Josie Storey and Audra Pasakarnis also reached double figures, finishing with 13 points each for Drury.

Behind Hitt's board work, the Lady Panthers also dominated in rebounding, closing with a 43-28 advantage.

The Bulldogs were led in scoring by Jordan Cunningham, who had 28 points and dropped to 5-6 with the loss and to 2-1 in GLVC action.

The Lady Panthers return to action on Sunday, December 15th against number one ranked Grand Valley State in Champaign, Ill., starting at 4 pm.
