Maryville holds off Drury to snap Lady Panthers 13-game winning streak

ST. LOUIS, Mo.— The Drury Lady Panthers had their 13-game winning streak snapped as they fell to Maryville 77-75 on Saturday in Moloney Arena in St. Louis, Missouri.

Drury fell to 21-5 on the season and 16-4 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, while the Saints improved to 16-10 and 13-7 in the GLVC.

The Saints started the game hot from the field, leading 26-16 after the first period. Maryville guard Carsyn Fearday was on fire, scoring 15 points within the first four minutes of the contest. She ended the quarter 6 for 10 from the field and with 18 points on her way to setting Maryville's single-game scoring record with 40 points.

The Drury offense came to life in the third period, starting a comeback that had them pull within seven, 58-51 going into the fourth quarter. Caitlynn Daniels led the charge for the Lady Panthers in the fourth quarter, scoring layups and floaters to bring the Lady Panthers back into the game within a possession of the lead in the final minute. The Saints would ultimately hit free throws to seal the game after a three-pointer Makaiya Brooks with 0.3 seconds made it a one-point game.
"We go 2 for 22 from the three-point line and shots didn't fall early and thought that affected us," said Drury head coach Kaci Bailey. "We didn't come out very aggressive and I thought Fearday set the tone for them early. I thought we dug ourselves in too much of a hole early."

Reese Schaaf ended the game with 24 points and 10 rebounds and Caitlynn Daniels had 12 points and 6 assists for Drury.

Maryville's Carsyn Fearday went 12 for 23 from the field, 2 for 6 from three-point range and was 14 for 17 from the line as part of her 40-point afternoon.

The Lady Panthers will return home next week when they host Upper Iowa at 5:45 pm in the O'Reilly Family Event Center.
