SPRINGFIELD, MO. – Drury softball was shutout to start the conference schedule against Lewis on Saturday at Thompson Field in Meador Park.
The Panthers were unable to cross home plate against the Flyers with a score of 4-0 in the first game, and a final of 3-0 in game two.
Game one saw the Panthers keep the visitors scoreless through six innings with
AJ Agers producing 4 1/3 innings of shutout ball and
Kristina Bettis going 2 1/3 clean until back-to-back walks and a single drove home four runs for the Flyers.
Bailee Nixon entered in relief to clean up the inning.
Delaney Garden shut out the Panthers, only allowing hits to
Victoria Garland and
Taylor Hartsell.
Garden improved to 7-2 while Bettis fell to 2-5.
Game two saw the Flyers take an early lead and hold on from there. Lewis scored all three of their runs in the first inning. The first scores crossed the plate off an Anna Frajford single and a throwing error, whilst the third run was scored off another error.
Drury had a hit in five of the seven innings but could not string together a play to score a run.
Maggie McKee had two of the five hits with a
Brooklyn LaChappa double and a Hartsell sacrifice the closest the Panthers got to home plate.
Lauren Beier got settled with the loss moving her record to 0-2 while Allie Wondrasek stayed undefeated at 6-0.
Saturday's contests moved Drury to a record of 13-15 on the season, 0-2 in the GLVC while Lewis now sits at 16-5, 2-0 in conference. The Panthers will remain home on Sunday to take on #11 Indianapolis for a doubleheader at Thompson Field in Meador Park. First pitch will be thrown at noon, with game two following immediately after game one.
