Lady Panthers celebrate Senior Day with win over Truman State

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.-- The nationally ranked Drury Lady Panthers wrapped up the regular season and enjoyed a celebratory Senior Day Saturday afternoon with a 93-68 win over the Truman State Bulldogs at the O'Reilly Family Event Center.

And as it has been throughout most of the season, it was the spectacular inside play of sophomore Reese Schaaf that propelled Drury to the 25-point win.

Just two days after setting a program record for rebounds in a game with 24, Schaaf posted her most impressive scoring effort as a Lady Panther, finishing with a career high 30 points and 10 rebounds for her 17th double-double performance of the season to move Drury to 23-5 for the season and to 18-4 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.

"She's impressive isn't she and she's special," said Drury head coach Kaci Bailey.  "There's no doubt if we continue to get that from her we can definitely make a run in the conference tournament and into the regionals."

After leading 38-35 at halftime, Drury opened the third period on a 24-5 scoring run to comfortably move ahead and were never pressed by the visitors down the stretch.

"We knew it was gonna be a close one, because I think they're better than their record," added Bailey.  "But at halftime we kept saying trust, trust, trust...they can't run for four quarters with us at our place, and so we just stayed the course."

On Senior Day it was fitting that the supporting honors to Schaaf's big day went to a trio of players taking part in their final games at the O'Reilly Family Event Center.  Caitlynn Daniels dropped in 22 points, Quincy Erickson had 11 and graduate student Beth Matas Martin closed with 10.

Truman State, which saw its season come to a close, was paced in scoring by a 22-point effort from Ellie Weltha, as they finished the campaign 7-21 and 4-18 in GLVC play.

Next up for the Lady Panthers is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament which begins March 7th in St. Charles, Missouri.
