Drury sweeps Missouri S&T in road doubleheader

ROLLA, Mo.— Drury took advantage of Missouri S&T miscues in game one, then took the second game in extra-innings to pull off a doubleheader sweep at Missouri S&T on Sunday in Rolla, Missouri.

The Panthers improved to 15-18 and 3-5 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, while the Miners fell to 12-20 and 3-5.

Missouri S&T committed seven errors in game one of the doubleheader. Drury took a 4-2 lead in the third inning, scoring three times and took advantage of three Miners errors in the frame. The Panthers added two more runs in the fifth, then took an 8-2 in the sixth with two defensive miscues factoring in on both Drury runs.

Missouri S&T pitching allowed eight runs but only one earned run in the loss.

Bailee Nixon (7-3) pitched 3.2 scoreless innings in relief to pick up the win. AJ Agers went 2 for 3 for Drury, and Rylee Kolb scored three times and stole four bases in the game.

Game two was scoreless for seven innings, but the Panthers scored twice in the top of the eighth and stopped a Missouri S&T rally in the bottom half of the inning to secure the sweep.

Drury outfielder Taylor Hartsell drove in the first run of the game with a triple, then scored on a single by Maggie McKee to give the Panthers a 2-0 lead.

The Miners scored a run with a sacrifice fly and had the tying run on base, but Panthers starter Kaley Adzick got a ground ball to close the game. Adzick (4-3) went all eight innings and allowed nine hits and one unearned run with no walks and seven strikeouts.

The sweep completed a 3-1 road trip for the Panthers, who split a doubleheader at Maryville on Saturday.

Drury is back at home on Friday when they host Upper Iowa on a doubleheader at noon at Thompson Field.
