LEBANON, Ill.— Drury swept McKendree in a doubleheader on Saturday, winning game one 7-5, then game two 12-6 in Lebanon, Illinois.
The Panthers improved to 17-14 and 15-5 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, while the Bearcats dropped to 12-21 and 6-14 in the GLVC.
With the sweep, Drury won three of four against McKendree and has won four of their five series in conference play with one 2-2 split.
Max Elmer went 4 for 4 with four runs scored, a double and a triple in game one as the Panthers hung on for a 7-5 win in game one.
Elmer put Drury in front 7-2 in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by
Luke Burk. The Panthers needed the insurance as McKendree battled back in the bottom of seventh and scored three times. The Bearcats had the winning run at first as they loaded the bases, but
Tyler Bastunas got a pop up to the right side of the field to end the game. Bastunas earned his second save.
Jack Jones (3-0) got the win for Drury while Jordan Eaton (2-3) took the loss.
The Panthers completed the sweep with a 12-6 win in game two.
Drury scored three runs in the first inning, marking the fourth time in the series they had scored at least two runs in the opening frame. The Panthers added two more in the third, then took a 9-1 lead in the fourth on a grand slam by
Wes Collins.
Luke Burk belted a three-run homer in the sixth to put Drury in front 12-4.
Burk went 2 for 2 in the game with four runs scored, three RBIs and two walks.
Wes Laaker (3-4) got the win for Drury while Brayden Biggs (0-3) took the loss for McKendree.
Drury returns home next week and will take on Washburn on Wednesday at 4 pm at Mark Worley Field at Meador Park.
