Missouri S&T rallies past Drury

ROLLA, Mo.— Missouri S&T rallied past Drury for a 63-57 win over the Lady Panthers at Gibson Arena in Rolla, Missouri, on Saturday.

Drury suffered their first loss in the Great Lakes Valley Conference and dropped to 10-4 with a 6-1 record in the league. Missouri S&T, off to their best start since the 2012-13 season, improved to 9-2 and 4-1 in the GLVC.

The Miners outscored Drury 22-13 in the fourth quarter to claim the win. The Lady Panthers led 44-41 at the end of three periods and took a 55-51 lead with 4:15 remaining on a Makaiya Brooks three-pointer, but the S&T drew even, 55-55, on a basket by Anna Finley with 2:43 left.

Finley scored again to put the Miners in front moments later, but Caitlynn Daniels tied the score at 57 with 58 seconds left. Missouri S&T forward Norah Gum converted a drive in the lane on the next possession to put the Miners in the lead for good.

"They won the energy battle," said Drury head coach Kaci Bailey. "We were up the whole game, but I never saw them hang their head and when they tied it at 44-44, our body language said, 'oh no.'"

Drury shot just 31 percent, hitting 22 of 71 shots, and their 57 points was a season-low. The Miners were 24 for 65 for 37 percent.

Lady Panthers guard Caitlynn Daniels had the fourth triple-double in program history, scoring 10 points with 10 rebounds and 11 assists. The graduate student from Robins, Iowa, also had three steals and two blocked shots.

Brooks led Drury with a game-high 18 points and she hit six three-pointers.

Gum had 17 points to lead Missouri S&T.

The Miners had lost 23 straight against Drury and is their first win over the Lady Panthers since Dec. 6, 2012, when they won at Drury 66-63.

Drury returns home next week when they host McKendree on Thursday at 5:45 pm in the O'Reilly Family Event Center.
