Drury returns to floor at William Jewell
The Drury Panthers are back on the court Friday at William Jewell in their first game since Dec. 21. Tipoff is at 7:30 pm in Liberty, Missouri.
Drury is 6-4 and 1-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, while the Cardinals are 4-7, 1-2 in the GLVC and will be looking to snap a four-game losing streak.
The Panthers are coming off an 89-76 loss at Arkansas-Fort Smith on Dec. 21 in their last game and their second road game of the season. Drury is 1-1 away from home this year and Friday's game will be their first conference game on the road. Friday's game is also the first of four straight road contests for the Panthers.
Zach Howell leads Drury in scoring, averaging 16.5 points, and is shooting .456 from three-point range, having hit 36 of his 79 attempts.
Juok Riak is averaging 13.9 points and carries a .560 shooting percentage, while
Logan Applegate is putting in 11.3 points per game and has made 21 three-pointers so far this year.
Drury leads the all-time series against William Jewell 44-37 (on the court) but will be looking for their first win in Liberty since Feb. 15, 2020, when the Panthers won 89-59. The Panthers lost at William Jewell last year, 80-57, on Feb. 10 in the lone meeting between the two teams last season.
After Friday's game, Drury continues their road trip on Sunday with a 2 pm game at Rockhurst.
About the Cardinals
William Jewell will be looking for their first win since they beat Illinois Springfield 74-67 at home on Dec. 2. Since that win, the Cardinals have losses at Rockhurst (70-64 on Dec. 5), at Southwest Baptist (74-59 on Dec. 7), at home to Fort Hays St. (63-59 on Dec. 14), and at Newman (63-55 on Dec. 17). William Jewell is averaging 60.3 points per game in their last four games and have scored 59 in three straight contests.
Jordan Jermain leads the Cardinals, averaging 20 points per game. The senior from Raymore, Mo., is shooting .398 from three-point range, hitting 35 of 88. Jason Thirdkill, Jr., is averaging 16.3 points and leads the team in rebounding, averaging 6.9 boards.
William Jewell is 2-1 at home and 1-5 on the road. The Cardinals commit fewer than 10 turnovers per game, averaging just 9.2 (Drury forces 17.4 per game).
