Drury takes aim at Prairie Stars
The Drury Panthers continue their road trip on Saturday as they take on Illinois Springfield. Tipoff is at 3 pm in The Recreation & Athletic Center.
 
Drury is 9-8, 4-6 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference and winners of three straight. On Thursday, the Panthers battled past Indianapolis for a road win, 80-77.
 
Illinois Springfield is 9-9 and is also 4-6 in the GLVC. The Prairie Stars lost at home on Thursday to conference leader and 9th ranked Missouri S&T, 85-78.
 
The Panthers are 15-4 all-time against Illinois Springfield, but the Prairie Stars have won four of the last six meetings. The two teams split the season series last year, with Illinois Springfield winning their home contest, 79-75, on Jan. 3, 2024, and Drury won at the O', 74-59, on Jan. 27, 2024. The Panthers have lost their last four at the TRAC and will be looking for their first win at UIS since Jan. 25, 2018, when they won 80-60 over the Stars.
 
Drury returns home after Saturday's game and will host Upper Iowa on Thursday, Jan. 30, for a 7:45 pm game in the O'Reilly Family Event Center. 
 
Applegate among Drury's top 50 scorers
Drury guard Logan Applegate enters Saturday's game ranked 47th on Drury's all-time scoring list. The junior from Nevada, Mo., has 951 points in his career and is two points away from passing Bob Kouhy (1955-59), and he's just four away from moving past Paul Hauck (1971-75) for 45th on the chart. 
 
About the Prairie Stars
Illinois Springfield has gone 5-3 since since Dec. 18. They lead the GLVC in three-point percentage, shooting .402 from behind the arc, and they are second in the league in field goal percentage at .490.
 
Max Kunnert leads Illinois Springfield in scoring and ranks seventh in the GLVC, averaging 16.6 points. Kunnert is also eighth in three-pointers made, averaging 2.6, and is eighth in three-point percentage at .362.
 
Evan Altman leads UIS in rebounding and is eighth in the league, averaging 6.4 boards and Jack Weber is ninth in the conference in field goal percentage with a .515 mark.
 
Prairie Stars head coach Matt Brock has ties to the Ozarks, having played high school basketball at Camdenton. He is in his sixth year at UIS after a previous head coaching stop at Missouri Baptist.
