Drury looks to continue roll vs. Lewis
The Drury Panthers have won four of their last five games since Jan. 16 and will try to maintain that roll as they host Lewis on Saturday at 3 pm in the O'Reilly Family Event Center.
Â
Drury is 10-9 and 5-7 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. On Thursday, the Panthers knocked off Upper Iowa, the league's second-place team, 82-81.
Â
Lewis is 12-6 and 7-4 in the GLVC. The Flyers lost on Thursday at fifth-ranked Missouri S&T 76-74 and have dropped three of their last four.
Â
Drury leads the all-time series against Lewis 16-7, but the Flyers won the lone meeting last year, 75-64, on Nov. 30, 2023, in Romeoville, Ill.
Â
After Saturday's game, the Panthers are back on the road as they travel to Truman State on Thursday for a 7:30 pm game in Kirksville, Mo.
Â
Nail-biters vs. Flyers
Drury games against Lewis have been nail-biters in the last several years, with last season's game being an exception. Six of the last seven games between the two teams have been decided by six points or less, and three of the last seven games have gone to overtime. Both match-ups in the 2022-23 season went into overtime and were one-point games, with the home team winning both.
Â
Race to 80
The Panthers have scored 80 points or more in each of their four wins in their current five-game stretch. Drury is 8-0 this season when they have scored at least 80 points and the Panthers are averaging 81 points per game in their 10 wins so far this season.
Â
Applegate seven points away from 1,000
Drury guard
Logan Applegate needs just seven points to become the 45th player in program history to reach 1,000 points in his career. The junior from Nevada, Missouri, enters Saturday's game with 993 points and ranks 45th on Drury's all-time scoring list. Last week, he passed Paul Hauck (1971-75) for 45th on the all-time chart.
Â
About the Flyers
Lewis is one of the top shooting teams in the GLVC. The Flyers are second in the league in field goal percentage at .494, and they lead the conference in free throw percentage (.814).
Â
Warden Paxton leads Lewis in scoring, averaging 15 points per game. Rob Stroud averages 14.9 points, is sixth in the GLVC in rebounding, averaging 7.1 boards, and he leads the conference in free throw shooting with a .922 mark from the foul stripe.
