QUINCY, Ill.– Heavyweight
Jack Stoffel delivered a win by decision, 9-4, to give Drury a 21-20 win over Quincy at the Pepsi Center in Quincy, Illinois, on Friday.
The Panthers improved to 5-4 and 1-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference while dropping the Hawks to 6-4 and 0-2 in the GLVC.
Friday's dual went back and forth and started with the Major Decision win by
Bryson Humphries at 125 pounds with a 14-1 win over Brian Farley. Quincy won by forfeit at 133, then got a Technical Fall win in the 141 match.
Trevor Christian won by Medical Forfeit in the 149-pound class, but the Hawks countered with a win at 157.
Will Kuster gave the Panthers another win with a 7-1 victory at 165 pounds and
Jeremiah Halter picked up a 17-1 Technical Fall victory in the 174-pound match.
Quincy followed, though, with narrow wins by decision at 184 and 197, giving Quincy a 20-18 lead and setting up the Heavyweight round that would decide the dual.
Stoffel, a freshman from Kansas City, defeated Logan Colbert with three takedowns for his 9-4 win by decision.
The Panthers compete again on Saturday when they travel to seventh-ranked McKendree for a conference dual at 7 pm in Lebanon, Ill.
