Drury Triathlon Repeats as NCAA West Regional Champions

FORT WORTH, TEXAS –  Drury triathlon captured its second consecutive NCAA West Regional Division II title, with five Panthers among the top 10 Division II finishers.  
 
The Panthers finished first among NCAA Division II programs and fifth out of 14 teams overall at the NCAA West Regional. Drury led all Division II schools with 335 points, edging Colorado Mesa, who finished second with 305 points. Arizona was the overall champion with 450 points. 
 
Alexis Workman won the Division II individual title and placed 21st overall with a time of 1:07:39. Kristina Vestman followed in second in Division II and 26th overall at 1:08:46. Mayumi Shinozuka and Tarryn Brumley finished fourth and sixth in Division II with times of 1:09:50 and 1:10:31, respectively. 
 
Alexis Workman, Kristina Vestman, Mayumi Shinozuka, and Tarryn Brumley earned All-Region honors for finishing in the top seven times for Division II athletes. 
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • Alexis Workman finished as the Division II individual champion and 21st overall (1:07:39).
  • Kristina Vestman placed second among Division II athletes and 26th overall (1:08:46). 
  • Mayumi Shinozuka finished fourth in Division II and 33rd overall (1:09:50). 
  • Tarryn Brumley placed sixth in Division II and 36th overall (1:10:31).
  • Cayman Barnes finished 10th in Division II and 41st overall (1:12:32) to round out Drury's top five times.
  • Shrebi Maharjan placed 13th in Division II and 44th overall (1:13:24).
  • Tylor Brino-Dean finished 20th in Division II and 54th overall (1:14:33).
  • Fabienne Egli placed 28th in Division II and 63rd overall (1:17:09).
  • Ava Sullivan finished 30th in Division II and 66th overall (1:17:47). 
  • Workman, Vestman, Shinozuka, and Brumley earn All-Region honors.
  • Drury won the NCAA West Regional for the third time in program history and in back-to-back seasons.
  • The Panthers have now won three straight competitions in Division II, and were overall champions at the Prairie State Cup. 
  • Head coach Terry Dean became the second coach in program history to win the NCAA West Regional in his first year.
  • The meet marked head coach Terry Dean's third competition and third win leading the Panthers.
QUOTABLE
"We came in today with people recovering from illness and injury, and were one teammate down," said head coach Terry Dean. "But everyone stepped up today and fought hard for this win. I am so proud of them and happy for the team because they've worked really hard for it."

Drury will compete in the NCAA National Championship held in Tempe, Ariz, on Nov. 8.
