Lady Panthers Find a Gritty Double Overtime Win on Hiland Dairy Kids Day

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Drury Lady Panthers secured their first win of the season on Nov. 20, a part of the Hiland Dairy Kids Day against Texas A&M International, 81-68 in double overtime.
 
Drury and Texas A&M International traded punches to start the game, going back and forth the entire first quarter. The Lady Panthers were the first to ten at the 2:55 mark on a Rhi Gibbons layup, her only points of the quarter.
 
The Dustdevils and Lady Panthers each scored one more basket to end the first quarter, 13-10 in favor of Drury.
 
In the second quarter, Drury got a spark offensively and went on a 9-2 run over the middle five minutes. Then Raegan Halliday hit a three to grow the Lady Panthers' lead to nine points, 28-19.
 
TAMIU cut the Lady Panthers' lead heading into the break, 33-28, behind a 7-0 run.
 
The Dustdevils kept momentum into the third quarter. TAMIU started the half on a 15-5 run en route to taking the lead, 52-46, entering the fourth. The Dustdevils outscored the Lady Panthers 24-13 in the third.
 
A six-point fourth quarter from Sara Mendel led Drury to tie the game at 62 and force overtime.
 
A total of ten points were scored in the overtime period, five apiece, to force a second overtime period.
 
A 14-1 second overtime period for the Lady Panthers propelled them to a 13-point win, 81-68.
 
Josie Storey scored ten of the Drury second overtime points, including a 7-1 run herself to start the period.
 
GAME NOTES
  • Thursday morning's game was the Lady Panthers' first win of the season.
  • It was also the 11th annual Hiland Dairy Kids Day Game. Drury is now 11-0 all-time in kids' day games.
  • Rhi Gibbons scored 12 points and 11 rebounds, her first career double-double.
  • Sara Mendel scored a career-high 20 points on 10-13 shooting.
  • Josie Storey recorded 18 points, her career-high at Drury, and she did so on 5-12 shooting from beyond the arc.
  • Raegan Halliday had her strongest game of the career, scoring 16 points, grabbing 10 rebounds, and dishing out five assists, all career highs.
  • The win was the 193rd program win at the O'Reilly Family Event Center.
  • Gibbons and Halliday both recorded double-doubles, the first time Drury has had two double-doubles since Nov. 26, 2024, against Arkansas-Fort Smith.
  • Storey took 12 three-pointers, the most for a Lady Panther since Makaiya Brooks on Jan. 11, 2025, against Missouri S&T.
  • Raegan Halliday played 39 minutes, the most of any Lady Panther this season.

"We needed this one," mentioned Kaci Bailey postgame, "I am very proud of how Raegan (Halliday) and Josie (Storey) played today off the bench. They led us to this gritty win."
