LEBANON, Ill. – Drury placed fifth in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) tournament on Sunday with a first-round loss to fourth-seeded Maryville and then a win over sixth-seeded Quincy in the placer round.
 
Drury 12 Quincy 31
The tournament started with a win for the Panthers. Bryson Humphries took down the Saints 125 wrestler, Sam Shafer, by decision 3-1. Maryville would go on to get the next nine points after a forfeit in 133 and a decision win in 141.
 
Trailing 9-3, Trevor Christian secured four points for Drury with a win by major decision, 15-5, in the 149 class.
 
Drury would get one more win in the dual from the 14th-ranked wrestler in the 165 class, Will Kuster. Kuster would handle his business quickly, defeating Nehemiah Washington 15-0 and getting the five-point technical fall win. That was Kuster's tenth win by technical fall this season, which is leading all of NCAA-II.
 
Maryville would win the next four matches adding to their lead and securing the win by fall in the 197 class.
 
Drury 22 Quincy 18
In the fifth-place match of the tournament, Drury started down 9-3 following a win by decision from Bryson Humphries, a forfeit loss in 133, and a decision loss in 141.
 
Trevor Christian kickstarted the Drury comeback with a major decision win, 12-2. Christian's win led to Panthers wins in three of the next four matches including, Will Kuster, Jeremiah Halter, and Tristan Staat.
 
Quincy picked up a win in 197 due to injury. Heading into heavyweight battle, Drury led 19-18. Jack Stoffel grabbed the win by decision 4-2 to secure the win for the Panthers and a fifth-place spot in the conference.
 
UP NEXT
Drury will send individuals to the NCAA-II Super Regional IV in Warrensburg on March 1 to compete for a spot in the national championships.
