BOLIVAR, Mo.— The Drury Lady Panthers pulled away from Southwest Baptist in the second quarter and rolled to an 88-63 win at the Meyer Sports Center in Bolivar, Missouri, on Saturday.
Drury improved to 19-6 and 15-3 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, while the Bearcats went to 8-16 and 6-12 in the league.
The Lady Panthers outscored Southwest 23-9 in the second quarter to take a 46-25 lead at halftime and led by as much as 35 in the second half.
Caitlynn Daniels led Drury with 23 points and added six assists, five rebounds and two steals. The graduate student from Robins, Iowa, was 9 for 14 from the field and 5 of 6 from three-point range.
Makaiya Brooks added 15 points, and
Sara Mendel chipped in 10.
"One of our main focuses was to run in transition," said Drury head coach
Kaci Bailey. "I thought we ran that whole first half. We played fast in the second quarter, and I think it wore on them."
Drury shot 49 percent from the field in the game, going 35 of 72, and they made 9 of their 20 three-point attempts. Southwest Baptist shot 37 percent as they made 25 of 67 shots and connected on just 4 of 20 three-point tries. The Lady Panthers also had a 50-38 advantage in rebounding, and
Anna Hitt led the squad with 11 boards.
"I thought
Aiden Moxness had one of her most complete games of the season, and
Caitlynn Daniels set the tempo for us and had a really efficient game offensively," added Bailey.
Drury returns to action on Thursday, Feb. 27 when they travel to Missouri-St. Louis for a 5:30 pm game in St. Louis, Mo.
