GVSU steals two from Drury

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Grand Valley State took two from Drury on Sunday afternoon at Mark Worley Field with a 3-2 and 10-3 loss for the Panthers.
 
Game One, 3-2 GVSU
Cody Bahl got the ball for the Panthers to open the series for the Panthers. Bahl opened the game with two scoreless innings before GVSU scored two in the top of the third with a single and a wild pitch. Bahl would be pulled before the start of the fourth inning, where GVSU would add one more to their lead.
 
Drury would respond in the bottom of the fourth, down 3-0, first with a single from Cannon Stuckey to score Wyatt Morgan. Two batters later, Stuckey would score on a passed ball. The Panthers closed the gap to one run.
 
The Panthers would get a few more prime opportunities to score with their best being in the bottom of the ninth with two runners in scoring position after a Carter Wambach pinch-hit single and a single from Luke Matschiner. Drury would leave both stranded and fall 3-2.
 
Matschiner went 3-5 on the day leading all Panthers. Cannon Stuckey had the lone RBI for Drury. Cody Bahl picked up his second loss of the season after only going three innings. Gage Hayes relieved Bahl to go six innings of one-hit ball with five strikeouts.
 
Game Two, 10-3 GVSU
In game two, both offenses were awake early. The Lakers scored two right off the jump. Drury responded with two in the bottom of the first to knot it up, curiosity of a two-RBI single from Carter Wambach that scored Gabe Russell and Wyatt Morgan.
 
The Panthers took their first and only lead of the game in the second with a Matschiner single to score Kaden Byrne.
 
Trailing 3-2, GVSU would respond with eight unanswered runs, kickstarted by a two-run homer from Jonas Gulbrandsen, he would hit a solo home run for the final run of the game in the seventh.
 
In game two, Wyatt Morgan and Hesston Gray had two hits for Drury. Carter Wambach led the team with two RBIs. Nick Gales threw 5.2 innings but gave up eight runs. He did strike out three in the loss.

Drury and GVSU will finish their series tomorrow with two seven-inning games starting at 11 am.
