ST. LOUIS, Mo.— The Drury Panthers scored four runs in the first inning and added two more in the second and hung on for a 14-8 win over Maryville on Friday in game one of a four-game weekend series in St. Louis.
The Panthers improved to 4-7, while the Saints dropped to 2-4.
Drury's four runs in the opening frame all came with two outs.
Wyatt Morgan belted a two-run home run and, later in the inning,
Connor Bain drove in two more with a double.
Leading 6-3 in the top of the seventh, the Panthers added four more runs and put the game away with a four-run ninth.
Gage Hayes (2-0) got the win, going five innings allowing five hits, three runs and three earned runs with three walks and five strikeouts.
Gabe Russell went 4 for 6 with two runs, three runs batted in and a double. Bain also went 4 for 6 and had a double with two RBIs.
Landon Willbrand was 3 for 5 with a run and two RBIs.
Sam Cardwell (1-1) took the loss for the Saints.
Drury and Maryville continue the series on Saturday with a doubleheader starting at noon at the Weber Baseball Field in St. Louis.
