Drury's offense comes to play in doubleheader split with Chaminade

HONOLULU, Hawaii – Drury's offense brought offensive fireworks to their split with Chaminade on February 2. The Panthers took game one 14-1 before falling in game two 9-7.

Game One, 14-1
Coming off two losses to Hawaii Pacific on Saturday, Drury's offense needed to bring some power to pick up their first win of the season and they did just that, along with strong defensive play.

In game one of the doubleheader against Chaminade, Drury scored at least one run in all but two innings. The game started with two runs scored after the Carter Wambach RBI double followed by the Jackson Crider RBI single.

In both the second and third innings, Drury scored a run a piece marked by Connor Bain's first homer of the season in the second.

The Panthers had another spark in the top of the fourth with three runs, scoring curiosity of singles from Hesston Gray and Gabe Russell.

One run in the fifth and seventh gave Drury a 9-0 lead heading to the top of the eighth. In the eighth, Cannon Stuckey pinch hits to lead off the inning and drills his first career home run to extend the lead. The Panthers would score four more runs after two walks and a hit by pitch with the bases loaded along with a sacrifice fly by Conner Flieg to move the advantage to 14-0.

The Silverswords would get on the board in the bottom of the eighth with an RBI double to close the scoring at 14-1.

Connor Bain led the offensive push going 4-4 with 2 RBIs. Luke Matschiner was 2-4 in game one with two runs scored. Nick Gales got the start on the bump going four innings striking one out and allowing one hit. Gage Hayes picked up the win in a five-inning relief appearance.

Game Two, 9-7
Early in game two, it looked like Drury's offensive was going to stay hot with a Jackson Crider sac fly to score Hesston Gray in the first and then a Landon Willbrand solo home run in the third. Chaminade scored one in the bottom of the second making it 2-1 after three innings.

In the top of the fourth, the Panthers had another big inning scoring three after a bases clearing 3 RBI double from Zach Ericsson. Chaminade would answer with one run.

The Silverswords had their biggest inning of the day in the bottom of the sixth, scoring six runs after Drury hit the batter and walked another one with the bases loaded.

Drury would score twice more in the game via an RBI groundout from Wyatt Morgan in the eighth and an RBI single from Gabe Russell in the ninth. The deficit was just too much after the sixth, giving Chaminade the win 9-7.

Landon Willbrand was 3-4 with two runs scored and one homer in the game. Zach Ericsson led Drury with three RBIs in game two. Markell Dixon started for Drury going five innings giving up two runs and striking out two. Corbin Bassham was given the loss after not being able to record an out in the sixth inning after allowing all four batters he faced to score.
