QUINCY, Ill.— The Drury Panthers shot 51 percent and made all 14 of their free throw attempts as they earned a 90-72 win at Quincy in Pepsi Arena in Quincy, Ill., on Saturday.
Drury improved to 11-11 and 6-9 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Hawks dropped to 8-14 and 3-11 in the league.
The Panthers led 44-39 at halftime, then expanded their lead by outscoring Quincy 46-33 in the second half. The Hawks tied the game at 56-56 with 12:46 remaining, but the Panthers responded with a 19-4 run to take command.
"Quincy fought back a few times after we were able to stretch the lead, but I'm really proud of the guys for sticking with it and being able to put it away at the end in the last five or six minutes," said Drury head coach
Chris Foster. "Quincy has a couple of guys that can really shoot it, and we did a good job of getting to those guys today and we played with some purpose offensively. (Logan) Applegate did a good job of setting the tone for us early and giving us a good start. And Juok (Riak) was a difference-maker today."
Riak led the Panthers with 21 points and was 9 for 9 from the free throw line. Applegate added 18 points and hit four three-pointers.
Zach Howell contributed 13 points, and
Brock Wakefield had 12.
Riek Riek provided 10 points and nine rebounds.
Quincy was led by El Sieger, who had a game-high 24 points.
Drury was 34 for 67 in the game for 51 percent while going 14 for 14 at the free throw line. Quincy shot 44 percent, hitting 27 of 61, but was held to 5 of 19 shooting from three-point range.
It marked the first win for the Panthers against Quincy in six games dating back to Jan. 31, 2019, and it avenged a 92-59 loss from earlier this season on Dec. 5 in Springfield.
Drury is back at home on Thur., Feb. 13, when they host Rockhurst at 7:45 pm in the O'Reilly Family Event Center.
