Luetticke's hit streak runs to 21 games in Drury sweep of Maryville

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Sophia Luetticke extended her hit streak to 21 games in Drury's sweep of Maryville on Sunday.
 
GAME ONE, 7-1 Drury
Drury hit early and often in the first game against Maryville. In the first inning, Landry Cochran singled into left field to score Isabel Ervin. The very next batter, Victoria Garland, hit a deep single into left-center field to score Cochran and Avery Budde, taking a 3-0 lead into the second.
 
The Saints had no response early for the Panthers' offense. Sophia Luetticke added some insurance to Drury's lead in the second with a groundout that scored Gabrielle Bax.
 
An AJ Agers homer in the third gave Drury a 5-0 lead before Maryville crossed the plate in the top of the fifth for their only run of the game.
 
Drury scored two more in the game, a Bax walk with the bases loaded would score Kenna Trower in the fifth. In the sixth, Isabel Ervin would score Luetticke. The Panthers take game one, 7-1.
 
Landry Cochran and Isabel Ervin both picked up two hits in the win. Sophia Luetticke grabbed her lone hit of the game with a triple in the sixth inning. AJ Agers was credited with the win in the circle. Avery Budde relieved Agers.
 
GAME TWO, 17-9 Drury
Runs were not hard to find in the second game of the day. Maryville would score twice in the first inning. Drury responded to the early deficit with six runs in the bottom of the first, chasing the Saints starter after five batters. In the first, Avery Budde, AJ Agers, Victoria Garland, and Jordyn Foley all recorded RBIs.
 
Taylor Hartsell extended the Drury lead in the second with an RBI to score Landry Cochran.
 
Holding onto a 7-2 lead entering the fourth inning, the Saints would start to chip away at the Panthers' lead. Maryville scored one in the fourth and six runs in the fifth. The six runs in the fifth gave the Saints a 9-7 short-lived lead.
 
After giving up six runs in the fifth, Drury answered with three in the bottom half to take the lead and did not look back. In the fifth, Landry Cochran singled to score Gabrielle Bax. Avery Budde would score Sophia Luetticke and Taylor Hartsell would score Cochran.
 
The Panthers' offense would kick it into a different gear in the sixth inning scoring seven runs. Victoria Garland would start the inning with a single. Natalie Wilks would then be single. Gabrielle Bax would reach first on an error to load the bases for Sophia Luetticke. Luetticke would single to right field but an error by the Maryville right fielder would allow the bases to clear and Luetticke would end up scoring. After a pitching change, Landry Cochran would homer to give Drury a 15-9 lead. The Panthers eventually scored Kenna Trower then AJ Agers would score on a Brooklyn LaChappa triple to end the game, 17-9.
 
Landry Cochran went 4-4 with two RBIs and four runs scored. Victoria Garland had three hits from the catcher position. Jordyn Foley started in the circle going 3.2 innings before Kaley Adzick relieved her for 1.1 innings. The winning pitcher was Natalie Wilks would pitched the final inning of the game.
 
UP NEXT
The Panthers will host Pittsburg State on Wednesday in Springfield. The doubleheader will start at 1 pm.
