Drury gets first program win at Indianapolis in split with Greyhounds

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Drury Softball won their first-ever game at Indianapolis, 6-2, in a doubleheader split. The win was the Panthers' first win against the Greyhounds since 2019.
 
GAME ONE
Drury took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning, Sophia Luetticke started the game on first following an error for the Greyhounds' third baseman. A passed ball and a steal put Luetticke on third. A single from Avery Budde would push Luetticke across. Indianapolis threatened in the bottom half but left the bases loaded.
 
After going down in order in the top of the second, Indianapolis scored two runs to take the lead.
 
The Panthers answered in their half of the third with one run to knot it up at two. Sophia Luetticke got the offense going again in this inning with a lead-off bunt single. After ending up on third following a wild pitch and a sac bunt, Avery Budde would hit Luetticke in for the second time in the game.
 
Drury regained the lead in the fifth inning and did not look back. Scoring three runs in the inning from another RBI from Avery Budde and Taylor Hartsell. Gabrielle Bax, Sophia Luetticke, and Landry Cochran all scored in the inning.
 
Brooklyn LaChappa hit in the final run of the game in the seventh inning to score Taylor Hartsell. The Panthers picked up their first win at Indianapolis, 6-2.
 
Three Panthers had two hits, Sophia Luetticke, Taylor Hartsell, and Gabrielle Bax. Avery Budde knocked in three runs in the game. AJ Agers pitched her second straight complete game, allowing two runs and six hits.
 
GAME TWO
After dropping the first game of the doubleheader, the Greyhounds scored four runs in the first inning to take an early lead.
 
Drury loaded the bases in the second inning but could not cut into the Indianapolis lead. The Greyhounds extended their lead in the bottom half of the second with a sacrifice fly.
 
Trailing 5-0, the Panthers put two runs in the score sheet. Sophia Luetticke singled to start the third inning before stealing second. Landry Cochran would then single on a bunt but a throwing error from the pitcher scored Luetticke. Cochran would eventually score on a fielder's choice from AJ Agers.
 
With the Panthers cutting into the Greyhounds lead in the top half of the third, Indianapolis responded with their second sac fly of the game to move their advantage to 6-2.
 
Drury's offense woke up in the fifth inning, taking the lead for the first time in game two after scoring six runs. Landry Cochran, Avery Budde, Taylor Hartsell, Brooklyn LaChappa, and Victoria Garland all pushed runs across the plate in the inning.
 
Indianapolis tied it at eight in the bottom of the sixth inning. Then walked it off in the seventh on a sac fly to split the doubleheader, 9-8.
 
Sophia Luetticke led Drury going 3-5 with two runs scored. AJ Agers also had three hits in the game. Natalie Wilks and Jordyn Foley both pitched in the game, combining for four strikeouts. Wilks was the losing pitching in the game.
 
UP NEXT
Drury will travel to Illinois-Springfield tomorrow for their final Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) weekend doubleheader. The first game is slated to start at noon.
