Drury gets split at Indianapolis to take three of four in road series

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.— Drury left Indianapolis winning three of four games against the Greyhounds after splitting a doubleheader on Friday in Indianapolis, Indianapolis. The Panthers won the first game in eight innings, 10-7, but lost game two 6-4.
 
Drury ended the day 24-10 and 14-10 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Indianapolis went to 21-18 and 14-9 in the GLVC.
 
Game One
Drury won game one of the doubleheader, scoring three runs in the top of the eighth inning in a game scheduled for seven. The Panthers loaded the bases and, with two outs, Hesston Gray belted a double that drove in three runs to give Drury a 10-7 lead.
 
Indianapolis put the tying run at the plate in the bottom half of the inning, but Luc Fuller got a strikeout and a pop-up to end the game.
 
Drury hit three home runs in the game as Wyatt Morgan, Landon Willbrand, and Kaden Byrne all went deep.
 
Gray finished the game going 3 for 5 with two doubles and four runs batted in. Byrne was 2 for 4 with a pair of RBIs.
 
Zach McKinnis (3-2) got the win in relief and Fuller earned his fifth save. Austin Bestul (5-4) took the loss in relief for Indianapolis.
 
Game Two
After Drury took a 4-2 lead in the top of the third, Indianapolis took the lead with three runs in the bottom half of the inning and added another run in the fourth on their way to a 6-4 win.
 
The Panthers threatened in the top of the seventh and had the tying run on base with one out. Drury had runners on first and second when the Greyhounds got an out on a fly ball to center field and they tagged out a baserunner for a game-ending double play.
 
Hesston Gray continued his tear in game two, going 2 for 4 with a double, home run and two RBIs. Landon Willbrand went 2 for 3 with two doubles, two stolen bases and a pair of RBIs.
 
Drury starter Markel Dixon (2-4) struck out eight batters in five innings but was stuck with the loss. Bennett Rogers (5-3) pitched a complete game for the win.



The Panthers are back at home next weekend and start a four-game series against McKendree on Friday at 6 pm at Mark Worley Field at Meador Park.
