Panthers and Tritons split in St. Louis

ST. LOUIS – Drury split with Missouri-St. Louis on Friday afternoon in St. Louis. The Panthers took game one, 7-1, and UMSL won game two, 4-0. Drury's record is now 29-19 overall, and 20-6 in the GLVC. The Tritons are 17-22, and 10-14 in the GLVC.

GAME ONE
UMSL entered the game on a four-game winning streak. Neither the Tritons nor the Panthers could get their offense started until the third inning. Sophia Luetticke led off the third inning with a single before stealing second. A sac bunt from Landry Cochran moved Luetticke to third. Taylor Hartsell doubled to score Luetticke. Hartsell would then score two batters later on a Kaley Adzick single.

Drury added three more in the fourth inning. The Panthers used the same attack as they did in the third. Reece Anderson doubled and advanced to third on a sac bunt from Gabrielle Bax. A single from Sophia Luetticke scored Anderson, followed by Luetticke stealing second. Landry Cochran would knock Luetticke in on her second triple of the season. Cochran then scored on a sac fly from Taylor Hartsell.

The Tritons added their only run of the game in the fourth inning. A leadoff double, followed by a groundout, and a single scored the run.

UMSL threatened in the sixth inning, but AJ Agers worked out of the jam, with no runs allowed.

Victoria Garland scored the final run of the game on a two-run home run in the seventh inning scoring Kenna Trower, who was running for Kaley Adzick. The Panthers took game one, 7-1.

Sophia Luetticke, Landry Cochran, Taylor Hartsell, and Brooklyn LaChappa all had two hits in the game. AJ Agers threw a complete game in the circle. She allowed seven hits and only one run with five strikeouts. Agers improved her record to 10-6.

GAME TWO
The Tritons controlled game two from the jump, scoring one in the first and two in the third.

Drury had one hit in the game. That came in the third inning when Sophia Luetticke had a single into center field.

UMSL added the final run of the game in the bottom of the fourth. A single followed by a groundout and stolen base put a runner on third base. A ground ball to third base that resulted in an error allowed the Tritons to score the fourth run of the game.

There was only one runner on the base paths in the final three innings for Drury.

The Panthers only reached base three times in game two. There were four errors for Drury. Jordyn Foley and Natalie Wilks both pitched in the game. Foley went 2.2 innings, allowing three runs, none of which were earned. She was the pitcher of record falling to 7-7. Wilks pitched the final 3.1 innings. She allowed one hit and an unearned run.

It was the second time this season that Drury had been one-hit. The first time was the second game of the season when, at the time, #20 Southern Nazarene allowed one hit in a 5-0 win on January 31.

UP NEXT
Drury does not have another game until April 24, when they host #14 Rogers State in the home finale at Thompson Field. The first game is scheduled to start at 2 pm.
